The Pastoral Track at the Reformed Baptist Institute requires more of students than the Discipleship Track. Our Pastoral Track is designed to provide the most pressing educational needs of a pastor. When we reduce the calling, knowledge, and experience of a pastor down to their essentials, we believe a pastor needs five things with which our residency program can assist:

  • Bible Knowledge

  • Preaching Ability

  • Writing Skills

  • Competent Counseling

  • Practical Administration

Biblical Knowledge

Nothing substitutes for biblical knowledge. Students in our Pastoral Track are required to read the Bible through in its entirety as many times as necessary to pass a Bible Assessment. This task is prerequisite to the Writing Proficiency requirement.

Writing Proficiency

After passing the Bible Assessment, those in the Pastoral Track must prove their proficiency by writing and editing a 15-paged research paper. This task is prerequisite to the other sections here.

Homiletics

Homiletics refers to the art of writing and preaching sermons. We devote a major part of our Pastoral Track to developing this ability of teaching and preaching, which is essential to the pastorate.

Counseling

Counseling is a crucial part of shepherding people. We teach our students to reject worldly means of counseling while wisely applying the limits of pastoral authority.

Leadership

Pastors are leaders. This component of our study helps students understand their own strengths and weaknesses, as well as leadership skills that will help them in pastoring, church planting, and revitalization.
